UHRA - January 2023 Newsletter
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
With the Racing Season now concluding on 31st December and Licensing following suit, we intend to hold our AGM in February or March 2023 when final Membership numbers processed through ‘Tick the Box’ and ‘manually’ are known which will allow Members ample time to consider nominating for Office Bearer positions.
We will also put forward at AGM a motion to change our Financial Year to coincide with the Racing Year.
UHRA Committee
The majority of the current Committee came together in 2017 and some feel it is perhaps an appropriate time for change with Board and CEO changes.
We now have well over 300 Members from all Regions and we ask you to consider nominating for one of the Office Bearer positions.
Any Member wishing to stand for UHRA or making an Inquiry regarding this matter can contact the current Secretary to discuss.
NSW Harness Racing Industry Rehoming Company (Director Vacancy)
UHRA is a Member of this Company and currently a vacancy exists. UHRA fully supports the Industry Rehoming Company and anyone interested should contact UHRA Secretary.
BREAKING NEWS
UHRA has recently made another Submission to HRNSW to very seriously consider Incentives to address the future viability of Trainers and Incentives to attract new Trainers.
Some of the ‘bullet point’ issues in the Submission included:
· Drop in Trainer and Driver Licensee Numbers est. 2013/4 = 1204 , est. 2021/2 = 964 ( 2023 unknown at this stage)
· Trainer ‘Starter Fee’ Incentive of $100 per horse with view to aligning to Owner and Driver remuneration on all starters
· Breeders Challenge ‘Trainer Commission’ has remained stagnant at 5% since 20?? and has never aligned to 7.5% or current 10% for non BC races. To say this situation is appalling is an understatement. We estimate Trainers were ‘out of pocket’ an estimated $100,000 in Commission for 2022 Season alone based on 5% instead of 10%.
· Trainers (and Drivers) to receive a share of HRNSW Bonuses as do Thoroughbred Trainers and Jockeys.
